Medallion

Holywell Bay is a golden sand beach situated on the north coast of Cornwall. The bay is home to tidal caves, large sand dunes and the iconic Gull Rock featured in this photo.

This shot was captured at sunset on a day out exploring the Cornish coast by motorbike. I visited Holywell earlier in the day to grab some photos before heading further up the coast for dusk. It was an overcast day and I thought my sunset hopes had been stifled. However, I was in luck. As the day died the clouds began to burn away. I was further up the coast at this point and I couldn't find a decent composition of my surroundings as the skies began to golden. I made a hasty decision to take the 30-minute ride back to Holywell and try my luck there.

As I pulled up, I was just in time for an absolute treat. I ran up and down the beach looking for my desired shot as the sun sank. Eventually, I found this composition which ended up being my favourite photograph of the evening. Sometimes the extra effort pays off.
