Lost Raiders

Description

In the heart of Scotland's Isle of Skye lies the Quiraing. A breathtaking and otherworldly sea of landscape that almost defies reality. It is still to this day one of the most incredible places I have set foot on.

The name Quirang comes from Old Norse and means 'round fold'. Legend has it that cattle used to be concealed in it's hills, hiding them from the Vikings raiders pillaging the Isle. Another interesting fact that I wasn't aware of at the time was that this landscape was one of Britain's largest land slips, and the rock lying below moves a few centimetres each year!

The mountain and loch in the middle of this shot is called the Cleat. While hiking through the valleys of cliffs and hardy tundra, I kept looking back at the Cleat. Trying to suss out the best composition for a photo. When I came across this little ridge in the foreground, I used it's angle to create a reveal effect for the mighty mountains in the backdrop drop. Thinking about the Nordic invaders, I can almost imagine the shot as being a point of view from their eyes. Peering over the ridge in search of the treasured cattle.
